gonna need a montage ...

Sketches of my Aunt's cat

Photo Montage Part II of trip to Houston, TX

Breakfast on the balcony, Mexicana flores, greenapple torte at Shade, & Bayou Bend

We had this really creepy waiter at Shade - I got the feeling he was watching us from the farthest end of the restaurant all nervous and sweaty that somehow he'd screwed up his lines about what part of the Atlantic the fish came from ...

He had a habit of floating around our table in a meandering circle with his eyes wide open - without blinking. But it's all good, because the food was great and so was the company.

Trojan Barbie Show + Kaiju Big Battel

Hey hey

This Friday, March 27th 6-8pm, the Trojan Barbie Gallery show opens at SPACE 242 in Boston's South End. All the art pieces include Barbie in some capacity, and I'm excited to see what the other artists came up with.

The Virgin Barbie $100 9" x 12" print on cotton rag framed

available for purchase through Space 242

We got complimentary tickets to the "Trojan Barbie" performance at ART [the American Repertory Theatre in Camebridge] I have no idea what that experience will be like; and even though Andy and I love going to the theatre, I just don't think we have time with our own duo show fast approaching...

and if you're in BROOKLYN April 3rd -

Kaiju Big Battel April 3rd 8pm $20 261 Driggs Ave BRKLYN, NY

8 I did the poster art for this show - which was a really fun gig

Hope to see you there!

Back in Bid-nez

Photo Montage Part I of my voyage fantastico to Houston, TX

I also did some sketching on the flight, which I'll post very soon.

The trip was really lovely; it was great to see my aunt and grandmother again.
The food was stellar - mostly texmex and authentic Mexican food; we stayed away from Cajun since we're not really into heavy pepper. Maybe next time!

In Boston, the streets are old and winding, the buildings are colonial brownstones, and everybody is professional and private - but I couldn't get over how big and wide Texas is! The entire horizon is completely flat and the interstates loom up like giant rollercoasters. I love Spanish-style homes; so it was nice to check out the palm trees and red clay rooves.

....................................

Andy got me flowers just before I left for Texas.
They are at the end of their lifespan now, but lovely nonetheless.

// This is an Annie Oakley burger with red onions and bleu cheese. I'm not sure what kind of horrible damage it's done to my body; but as you can see by the Diet Dr. Pepper, I make healthy choices.

Prints available $10

Hey kids -
Had a fun Sunday with Yuka in Harvard Square last week. She brought me presents from her trip home to Tokyo (how nice!) I was kind of embarassed at how terribly filthy Camebridge was. It was the first warm day in a long, long time, so all the snow melted revealing piles of soggy garbage ... eww.

Some sketches from a trip to the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

Had an awesome time with Andy last night watching this awful Ahh-nold movie "Commando" with Alyssa Milano playing his kidnapped-for-no-real-reason daughter. Highly reccomended.

Collage booklet

I've been working on some collage pages in my spare time. It's been a fun exercise what with all the bits of junk I seem to collect. These are open spread of little pages that fold up into a little booklet. * Lots of art updates soon, I promise ; this month is insanely hectic!

Rainn Wilson; aka Dwight [our favorite character on the Office]; has some spectacular taste in lo- and high-brow art. Watch for his new online network SoulPancake.com for some awesome stuff. I'm excited!

EDIT:
Okay, just checked it out and SoulPancake is NOT what I expected ...

March is Diet Month

self-promotional image

There are many bagels and donuts in here
... and a giant coffee roll

HAHA No, no it is not. No month is diet month for me. I act like it is doing girly things like "Oh please, no more buffalo wings, just one is good for me" but I AM LYING. I love good food.

Really living, in a deeper sense of the word, means engaging all of your senses. See great art, hear great music, smell and taste great food ... and hug somebody.

I saw ghost letters today, faintly covered up with a thin layer of fresh paint that read "ALL PROCEEDS GO TO ORPHANAGES" ... it was written on the side of a strip club ... hmm

Zanzo Moxie #5 + other things

The Maiden Heist premiers at the Worcester Art Museum this week, and while Andy and I were asked to attend the after party, I think my dad's bluegrass concert will be much more entertaining.

I just checked, and somehow I didn't blog about The Maiden Heist back when they were filming at WAM and I "accidentally" showed up to "make some copies" We basically watched them film second unit stuff which included a box being rolled back and forth, and watching the crew have lunch.

Andy and I are dying without the Office! We finished watching every episode chronologically on Netflix Watch Instantly, and now we're up to Season 5 and have already missed 10 episodes in the season! [boo] Ah well, we'll probably start catching up on the Mighty Boosh or Flight of the Concords.

Long Lost Laura
Last week I hung out with my awesome friend Laura Clark. It was actually pretty movie-magical how we met for the first time in 5 years. We agreed to meet at Coolidge Corner one night, so I hop on the bus at Brigham Circle. As I'm fumbling around for a dollar for the bus driver, I'm appologizing and getting all flustered - someone slides one in the machine and pays for me! It was Laura!

>> If you live in Boston and enjoy good things, you should check out her comedy troupe The Dowry, and catch them at Improv Boston. PREVIEW: Life Support Sketch

Sweet Meats Gallery Opening + Sketches

A recent sketch

Amanda Clarke

Jen Lewis

Andy and I went to Space 242's Sweet Meats & Sour Grapes opening this Friday in Boston. It was the quite excellent. One half of the duo show was Jennifer Lewis, a stellar artist whose works were in Pop Euphoria! this December.

We met up with lots of great people including Tak, who [or whom?] Andy's been telling me nice things about for a long time, and I finally got the chance to meet him. Bamcat came with her super cool acrylic heart necklaces [you should order one from her Etsy!] and Lindsay Small showed up with an AMAZING Totoro bag! [jealous]

SPACE 242 is a great space; Andy and I are very excited to be showing there ourselves this summer! {But that also means our schedule goes into OVERDRIVE as we furiously work for the next 3 months solid in preparation}

goodbye February - your rectangular perfection on my calendar was rare and beautiful.
