Art All State 2013

This is my 5th year being involved in Art All State, which I'm very proud of.  My students built this entire angler fish out of white ribbon and wooden dowels in just 12 hours!

They used a blue model clamp light to create that wicked glow effect (below)

Pretty amazing, right!?  These kids killed it, I loved working with them - so nice and enthusiastic, really awesome people all around

In other news, so many projects going on that I can't talk about yet, trying to find time to work on Frankenstein on the weekends, garden, study... Phew.

But if I'm not busy I go crazy so, no complaints.

I liked these neat beakers, will be using them for reference in Frankenstein pages!

Dispatches from Japan 第22回 - from the Shinkansen 新幹線から

One of my favorite things about Japan is the domestic travel.

The domestic JAL flights are the best I've ever experienced in my life, the train travel can't be beat, and even the infamous crowded subways aren't that bad.

Even though it's a bit expensive, taking the Bullet Train is one of my favorite ways to travel, and I'd rather spend the money on that than go via highway bus.  It's a wonderful experience, and you can really see the country too!

I opted for the Puratto Kodama, which saves you about $45 and comes with a free drink from the concession cart and a reserved seat.  I recommend it!

*The only draw back, if you miss your train you are out of luck, your reserved seat can't transfer to any other train.

I tried to take a picture of this boy and then the train shuddered for a moment,
but I like the effect it produced...

Dispatches from Japan 第23回 - Shinjuku Station 新宿駅

I only had a very brief stop in Shinjuku, and at that time I was quite sick.

Which of course, being one of the world's busiest train stations...

at 5:30pm on a Friday ...

and the sales girl tells you the wrong directions....

it was a struggle.

But I regret nothing, it was nice to see a part of Tokyo I'd never experienced before.

every once in a while, for about 5 seconds, it would feel like I was still in America

I really want one of these... ^

Dispatches from Japan 第21回 - ShinjukuGyoenmae 新宿公園前

Yes, these Japan posts are going to last well into the rest of the year, so you'll just have to deal with that.

So many art projects going on right now, promise to post updates on those as soon as possible.

In the meantime, here are some pictures from a brief walk through Shinjuku Koen.

「真谷子さんと麻衣さん、私達のお会いをボツたって本当に住みません!その時にまだす〜ごく病気だったんだ。その上、一時間だけあって、日を変わって。。。めちゃくちゃ、ごめんね!」 :(

Storm + pics from the week

New art ending on eBay in a few hours :)

So crazy busy, one of the things I both love and hate, I guess?  Well, okay I never hate it, but it can be stressful.

Here are some pics from the past 2 weeks, flea markets, nurseries and seeing some amazing art by Michael Hachey

I think his work is really wonderful

At PJ's diner somewhere in Western Mass.

(go for the red pepper hash, stay for the Children's art gallery)
